Due to personal reasons, for the time being, I shall be celebrating Women in Horror Month online, discussing the work of the incredible women I have encountered over the years and looking to what the future looks like for women working in horror. Jennifer xo

"Jennifer’s Bodies is a roving annual festival of female-helmed horror movies and part of Women In Horror Recognition Month, an international assortment of affiliated events organised partly to highlight just how much women can and do contribute to the genre outwith the typically accepted factors of tits, ass and mezzosoprano screaming." Jennifer's Bodies 2017 Official Selection - Sophia Cacciola starring With Whip, from Lianne O'Shea!

Sophia Cacciola is one powerhouse of a lady!  And a Vegan one at that!  This filmmaker/actress/musician has been done so much within the past ten years, it's hard to keep up.

For me personally, first and foremost it was her film TEN that first got my attention.  Ten was awesome!  And not only did Sophia write and direct the film, she also played a folk singer in it too....which was a nice little way of showing us just how wickedly talented she actually is!

This year I have a film that Sophia and her partner in crime, Michael Epstein produced, and that Sophia starred in, alongside writer Lianne O' Shea and director Aviv Rubinstein.  :)

With Whip is a delicious little short that takes a cheeky swipe at consumerism and how brain dead our society has actually become.  It may be short, but it is most definitely sweet!  In an ever so naughty way!

You can follow more of Sophia's work at her website and check out her latest feature, Blood of the Tribades on Amazon and VOD.  Oooh, Sophia also features in Izzy Lee's Innsmouth, showing at Jennifer's Bodies as well. :)

Check out the trailer for Blood of the Tribades below.

Jennifer's Bodies 2015 Line Up - Short Films Category - Melanie Light's The Herd! A Vegan's Take on the Brutality of The Dairy Industry!

It is with extremely great pleasure that I can announce that I shall be screening The Herd, written by my fellow feminist, horror Vegans Ed Pope (yes, boys can be feminits too!!) and directed by Melanie Light....pictured below.

You might remember me writing about this film when Melanie was first running a kickstarter campaign for it.  :)

I remember describing this film to people when Melanie first sent me details of the film/campaign.  People were utterly horrified when I said that it was about these women who are kept in cages/crates and are repeatedly raped and impregnated, only for those babies to then be taken off of them, they are milked dry, raped and impregnated again, in a cycle of repeated abuse.  If they try and rebel, they get zapped with probes.   Everyone always comments how fucked up, sick and deprived this is.  To which I then reply, "kinda EXACTLY like the dairy industry!!"

I guess what I find so shocking is the fact that we have to resort to such vulgar descriptions to get people to understand the utter cruelty of these industries.

I for one shall be VERY interested to hear peoples thoughts on this one.  :)

In the meantime, please check out the brand spanking new trailer for the film, and let us know what you think.  :)

Jennifer's Bodies 2015 Line Up - Feature Films Category - Rocking Vegan Feminism with Sophia Cacciola and Michael J. Epstein's TEN!

Soooo, my first feature film announcment comes in the form of the deliciously wicked, yet wonderful feast for the eyes, TEN.  A feature that is so after my own heart and everything I believe in, that it is just an absolute delight!  If like me, you like your films to be entertaining, pretty fucked up...and that actually have something to say, then you're going to fucking love TEN!!

TEN is a post-exploitation exploration of identity starring ten women.
Ten women find themselves in a vacant mansion on Spektor Island in December, 1972. Each believes she's traveled to the house on business, but they all agree that something seems strange. For one thing, the entire house is full of pictures and statues of pigs.

The women all come from drastically different walks of life. None of them would have chosen to spend the night together in such an eerie place, but the last ferry for the mainland has just left, and a terrible storm is rolling in. Trying to make the best of an unpleasant situation, they raid the mansion's wine cellar and throw a party. As the night creeps on, however, it becomes clear that someone--or something--has arranged to get them in the house. It's not long before someone mentions that Spektor Island is supposed to be haunted. Of course, no one in the house believes in ghosts.

At least, not until the first murder.
What do an actress, a religious zealot, a renegade, a coed, a model, a singer, a medium, a real-estate investor, a historian, and a doctor have in common? None of them is who they seem. Yet, the fate of the entire world may rest in their hands.

The all-female cast film is a response to exploitation, slasher, and thriller films, with particular focus on the kind of storytelling prominent in b-movies and genre films from the 1950s to the 1980s. It explores the meaning and fluidity of identity and takes a number of surprising turns, paying homage to filmmakers and producers such as Alfred Hitchcock, Roger Corman, John Carpenter, Wes Craven, Jim Wynorski, Jean Rollin, Lloyd Kaufman, and Andy Sidaris.

Ooh, and a film with opening credits THIS awesome...you know this little Vegan animal rights activist and feminist is gonna be ALL over this!! Muaaahahaha. :)

Melanie Light is Back with a Brutal Take on the Dairy Industry in The Herd, and Needs Your Help!

As a Vegan animal rights chickaroo, I am always having to explain just what exactly is wrong with milk, and where the cruelty in the dairy industry lies.  Well.....director Melanie Light is about to make that subject all the easier for me to get my point across with her new short The Herd, and I am fucking ecstatic about it!! :)

Starring Pollyanna McIntosh (The Woman, Filth) and featuring a score by Laurent Bernard of Gallows, THE HERD is a study into the most unimaginable human suffering, yet it depicts a violence that is perpetrated every day on a massive scale.

THE HERD is written by Ed Pope and directed by Melanie Light, and features the additional acting talents of Victoria Broom (ABCs of Death 2, Stalled), Jon Campling (Sleeping Dogs, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows) and Charlotte Hunter (Dungeons and Dragons, Vitality).

Imprisoned within inhuman squalor with other women; Paula’s existence and human function is abused as a resource by her captors.
Escape, on any level, is hopeless as the women are condemned to a life of enforced servitude at the whims of their imprisoners for one reason only – their milk.  Enslaved, inseminated and abused – every facet of their life is violated. At first the premise seems exaggerated and absurd; but is, in fact, disgusting in its stark normality.
Deliberately avoiding the lack of finesse associated with “torture porn” and sexploitation, THE HERD eschews these in favour of a vicarious descent into the visceral nightmare of relinquishing the most innate rights of existence.
Existing principally as a dark and transgressive horror short; THE HERD also asks questions as to how we approach the sentiency of other beings and the importance of the concept of individual freedoms in modern society.
The Herd brings together a ridiculously talented team, and those who were at Jennifer's Bodies in February will know Melanie from her gore~geous serial killer short Escape.  Written by Ed Pope, this is a story I've always wanted to do.  It's the kind of extremity that one almost needs to use to make a point, and to get people to listen.  It's not shock for shock's sake, there is purpose behind it.  And one very dear to me at that.

To make this project to Melanie's exceptionally usual  high standards, she is calling on YOU, the fans, and fellow advocates of horror and animal rights, to help her!  The perks that go along with helping to fund the film are pretty awesome I'm sure you'll agree, so if you've got some spare pennies and want to help make what I'm pretty god damn sure will be one of the best films this year...then get a clicking and find out more HERE!

To keep up to date with the project please be sure to LIKE it on good old Facebook, and of course keep your peeps peeped here too! :)
