Due to personal reasons, for the time being, I shall be celebrating Women in Horror Month online, discussing the work of the incredible women I have encountered over the years and looking to what the future looks like for women working in horror. Jennifer xo

Jennifer's Bodies 2017 Official Selection - Gigi Saul Guerrero's Madre De Dios, Starring Tristan Risk!

For many years, Gigi Saul Guerrero has been a personal favourite of mine.  She is one bad ass chick and one hell of a filmmaker to boot!

This year I shall be showing her Tristan Risk starring short Madre De Dios.

My mate Finnie summed this up perfectly....."Like the Exorcist on crack!"  I have to agree with him.  Haha.  If you have seen any of Gigi's prior work, you will have a pretty good idea of just how accurate he is going to be!  Haha.

Tristan Risk is obviously one of our ultimate darlings in horror, and Gigi, along with her Luchagore team have most definitely joined the party.  There is so much talent here.  Like, every time I watch From Dusk Till Dawn, I keep thinking, we need Gigi directing dammit!!  From Dusk Till Dawn is easily one of my favourite shows.....Gigi is THAT awesome!!  Check out my interview with the lovely lady from 2014 to get a better idea, and to also kinda geek over how far she has come in such a short period of time.  Gigi = LOVE!! <3

To keep up to date with her work, please check out Luchagore Productions on Facebook and be sure to follow Gigi on Twitter as well.

EXCLUSIVE - SPECIAL GUEST ANNOUNCEMENT - American Mary, Redacted and Call Girl's Little Miss Risk Herself...Tristan Risk!

It is with the greatest of nerdy pleasures that I can announce that not only shall I be screening Jill Sixx Gevargizian's Call Girl, starring Tristan Risk.  Little Miss Risk herself shall also be in attendance!  WHEEEEEEEE!!! :)

Tristan Risk first came to my attention when Jen and Sylvia Soska emailed me to say that they had re-cast the role of Beatress in American Mary.  Like those two freakshows, I instantly fell in love with this twisted, intelligent, sugar and spice, and all things nice....and SALTY...(if one is to quote Jennifer Check from Jennifer's Body!)...chickaroo!!  As did Mommy Agnes Soska (pictured below with the trio of terror,mwahahahaha!!)....who is like mine and Tristan's surrogate mommy!! :)  We looooooooove her!!! <3

Originally the girls had went to meet up with Tristan as she was part of Vancouver's Sweet Soul Burlesque troop, and they wanted her to do the choreography on American Mary.  Tristan was more than just some chick who could shake her booty though....she WAS Beatress!! This sweet, sexy, smart, totally mental person....both inside and out.  She was perfect!

Everything about this girl oozes quirk!  She is quintessentially my ideal woman!  She is fearless in a way that one can only admire, and it was quite clear from a very young age, that this girl was never going to be one to conform!  And whilst some may judge her for taking her clothes off (you know there are gonna be prudish assholes out there who will be doing this!!)....the way she does it....it is the ultimate expression of feminism and liberation.  She doesn't do this for the sexual gratification of men.  She does this to feel free...and because it feels so natural to her.  And because she has god damned fun doing it!! :)

She is smart as hell and a total lover of sharks...so my sister Kimberley will instantly love her...as she does Tristan's American Mary co-star, Katherine Isabelle.

We live in a world where people are so often afraid to express themselves.  We live in a world where slut shaming is the norm.  Men can sleep around with as many women as they want and get high fived....yet if a girl even THINKS about embracing her sexuality, she's a whore!!  WhatEVER!!

Tristan is the kind of girl that makes you want to skip through the forest throwing your clothes off whilst giggling and playing hide and seek.  She's like a drug...if only we could be snorting her, we'd be the happiest freakshow of love, freedom, madcap hilarity and genuine compassion on the face of the planet!! :)

Such a wonderful personality deserves to have parts written, just for her.  And that is what my fellow Scot, Andy Stewart has done with his latest film Redacted.  He has written the part with Tristan in mind.  And trust me....this is SO Risky!! ;)

We're currently in the process of raising fundage for the film just now, so if you've got some pennies to spare, or you'd like to help out in any way...check out the campaign on IndieGoGo.  There are some shit hot perks depending on how much funds you can donate.  Like, if you can afford it, there are some seriously awesome, one of a kind perks too.  Check it out!! :)

To keep up to date with all things Risky, then be sure to LIKE her on Facebook, and follow her on Twitter too.  :)

Oooh....lastly....this is my PERSONAL song for Risky to strip to for me!! :)

Also, I think that Thrasher by my friend Gavin Bain, aka Brain McLoud is a pretty decent 'WELCOME TO SCOTLAND YO' kinda track!  Especially if Andy and crew get Risky on the Bucky!!  Baaahahahahahaha.  That is Buckfast Tonic Wine

Twisted Twins and Friends Present the 2014 Fucking Awesome Massive Blood Drive Video!!

Every year, for the past five years, Jen and Sylvia Soska have released their Massive Blood Drive PSA.  And every year this project has gotten bigger, and bigger.

This year, they enlisted the help of a whole host of bad ass chicks within the horror genre including Patricia Chica, Hannah Neurotica, Maude Michaud, Jessica Cameron, and Isabel Peppard.

Blood donation is such an important cause throughout the globe, and this is the single most fun way I've ever seen an advertisement inspiring people to give blood....like EVER!! :)

I think this is the best Massive Blood Drive PSA we've had to date, and I cannot wait to see what the girls twisted little minds will have for us in the years to come as well.

Jen and Sylvia Soska - It Takes More than Just Good Looks to Get Them to Where They Are Now. They Work Hard, and Still Have Fun!

Jen and Sylvia Soska are two extraordinary chicks with big hearts and a gore~geous sense of imagination.  Yes, they are two very attractive girls who like to play dress up. They are basically the female versions of the dudes that would play Dungeons and Dragons and then go to Comic Con dressed as Batman.  Yes their costumes are incredibly sexy...but they are also incredibly fucking nerdy!!  And when you combine just how big a comic book nerds the girls actually are...they are UBER NERDS!!!

But yet for this, they get totally slated.  People are basically berating them for how they dress...as nerds!!  I mean, what the fuck!?!?!!!  How the fuck do all you haters expect them to dress!?!  I think that there is so much bitterness and general playground cattiness aimed at them and quite frankly it pisses me off!!  Do you not think that they got picked on enough in the playground just because they were different.  And remember, this was back before when it was "cool" to be a nerd!  And you know something...if they were FAKE nerds, then yeah, all y'all nerds would have a reason to be pissed off at them.  But in fairness, they're two of the biggest fucking nerds I've ever met!  And I am a great big fucking nerd!!

They have worked hard to get to where they are.  They have basically not stopped working for well over 5 years.  Any hot chick can wear a skimpy outfit.  Do you not think that Hollywood producers see enough of that coming through the system EVERY FUCKING DAY!!  Jen and Sylv went against that sleazeball system and raised the funds to make American Mary themselves, and wrote it as a statement against all the shite that goes on there!

They inspire women to embrace their sexuality, no matter how they look.  Yes, the whole twin thing might seem like a bit of a gimmick to some...but that's how they were born!!  That's how they naturally are.  They're not some product squeezed out of a production line.  So why people feel the need to constantly pick them apart, it is so pathetic.

And anyhoo...more to the fucking point...they have given the horror world Tristan fucking Risk.  That is reason enough to love them alone!!

Jen and Sylv don't only embrace the horror world that they have adored since they were creepy wee kids, they use their voice to help out some amazing causes too.  Their main one is to inspire people to donate blood, and for the past five years, every year they have released a new PSA to help them with their goal.  At the bottom of this post is the one from February 2012, when they had just finished filming American Mary and got some of the cast to join in the fun and get all bloodied up! :)

Just because a girl has a personality and is attractive, it does not make her an incapable moron who does not deserve the same opportunities as the men in her field of work.  And let's face it...a lot of the complaints I'm seeing come from men!  Which to me just looks like jealousy.  Jen and Sylvia have personalities, and women are totally getting behind them.  Surely if we're going by standard conventions, if a girl is using merely her looks to get her places, then generally women are gonna call that shit out, and NOT support them!  That is not the case here.

For those that say how can they be feminists when they wear such provocative clothing?  Being a feminist isn't about what you wear...it's about what you DO, and Jen and Sylv have helped to give a voice to women within the horror community!  And they're actually making it into the boys club with their inclusion into The ABC's of Death 2, See No Evil 2 and various other cool projects.  As is Mexican Gigi Saul Guerrero, yet another hot, but insanely talented chick who I'm sure will have to deal with this kinda shit as well...just because she's young, attractive and outgoing!

UPDATED to add pics of these nutters all FINALLY together, and with Gigi doing a segment on the 2015 Massive Blood Drive PSA.  Yay! :)

When all is said and done, at the end of the day, it doesn't matter how fucking hot you are....if your film is shite, then people are gonna see through that straight away.  Jen and Sylv have slaved their arses off to get to where they are.  They  have put their OWN money into every single project they've worked on...including See No Evil 2.  Which another thing...they've been getting shit for doing that as well.  Has it not occurred to any of the haters that they actually WANTED to do this film.  The first film was just a fun slasher...so what is wrong with wanting to do an established fun slasher!?!  And to cast two of the most bad ass chicks in horror...Katherine Isabelle and Danielle Harris!!  If I had established myself as a director, and someone asked me to do a Friday the 13th sequel, I'd totally be on that bitch in a microsecond!  Because as silly as the films are...I fucking love Jason Voorhees, and think the films are awesome stupid fun!

There is way too much pretension within this genre sometimes; people forget that it's about having fun at the same time.  Did Joe Lynch get shit for doing Wrong Turn 2??  Not like this he sure didn't!! And Wrong Turn 2 is fucking awesome!!!  Because they brought in someone who was a huge fan of the genre and did something fun with it!  And in fact...I actually prefer it to the first one.  :)

At the end of the day, haters gonna hate.  I personally find it rather pathetic to be honest.  If you don't like them, fine.  Don't resort to name-calling and all the playground shite that comes along with it though.  These girls work hard and have fun whilst doing so.  Sounds like a pretty fucking sweet deal to me!  I think that Truth or Dare director Jessica Cameron sums it up perfectly...Haters Gonna Hate! Simples.  :)

So Just Why is it We Need Women in Horror Month?

As an ambassador for Women in Horror Recognition Month, I am always on a mission to keep people informed as to our general mission, and all year round as well.  Like I always say, it's a celebration of women in horror, as more than just tits and ass!!  :)

Now last night I was speaking to a director/filmmaker I'm working with and I mentioned how much of a niche crowd us women in horror guys really are.  His reaction was, "Even more niche than British American Football?" to which I replied, "Are you fucking kidding me!?"  He then went on to say that he's known loads of women at college/uni etc. that were equally as good as the guys, ya di yah.  I then asked him what in an ideal world would be an easy fucking question for a filmmaker to answer - name some female directors!!  The only two he could think of were Sofia Coppola and "that chick that did The Hurt Locker"!!!

THAT CHICK being Katherine Bigelow, pictured below on the set of cult Lance Henriksen vampire flick, Near Dark!

I then asked him to name me some female horror directors, excluding Jen and Sylvia Soska, just because I'm friends with them and he only knows of them because of me, so that wouldn't count...that would be like asking him to name some of my mates.  The only female he could come up with was Jen Lynch...but again, she's a chick I'm always writing about etc.  Apart from them, he couldn't think of any!!   Yet if I asked him to name male filmmakers, he'd have no problem.  The thing is, yes, he's right, there are plenty of women out there that are just as good as the guys, if not better...so why the hell don't we see more of their work more often??  The answer is simple, women are treated as second class citizens in the movie industry.  And that is just something that does NOT sit right with me....at all!!

Anyhoo, when putting together an article of all the Women in Horror Recognition Month Events, founder Hannah Neurotica pulled this quote from me that I had written a few years back to go alongside Jennifer's Bodies, and I'd totally forgotten about it!!  Although I fucking love it and still stand by what I said!

"So what is the whole point of this, and why should we stand up and be noticed!?! Well, for one....the amount of talented and downright fucking awesome women that work in this genre is unbelievable!!! They write, they direct, they produce, they blog and most importantly....they are bloody awesome FANS!!!!!! Are we given that recognition though, hellsssss NOOO!!!!! The general concept is still that chicks are supposed to hide behind their hands and clutch onto the guy next to them...FUCK THAT!!!!! Because you know what, we're just as sick and twisted, if not even more so...we are also just as talented and have just as much to give when it comes to horror!!! So yay, join me in a celebration of wonderfully talented, totally rad-core to the maximus laydeeees that are changing the face of horror and who if you jump on the band wagon now, you can be all like "I was totally into them like waaaaaaay before they became popular!!!"

An Interview with Todd Michael Schultz, the Singer who Brought on Women in Horror Month Founder Hannah Neurotica to Direct the Music Video for his New Single Survive!

How was it you came to know the lovely Hannah Neurotica, and had you heard of either AX WOUND or Women in Horror Month before that?

I met Hannah through the Soska Sisters. They and I made a sickening (sic) little video in which I was the victim of an untimely stabbing... maybe it was completely timely though. Anyway, Hannah and I became Facebook friends. I would say the thing that attracted me to having her direct a video for me, was that she obviously had a drive to get her creation on and that's something I notice in people. (That's definitely what the Soska's and I bonded over. We just want to create because we were designed to.) Anyhow, Hannah posted about a short story back in September and I said... SEND IT TO ME. We got to talking, and I knew she had to do this. For both of our own good!

Being that Hannah had never done anything like this previously, what inspired you to put your music in her little kitten mittens!?!

I actually wrote the song for an upcoming slasher film called Girlhouse, written and produced by Nick Gordon. They ended up choosing other songs of mine (which is awesome). When I was writing this, I was writing from the perspective of a girl living in a house that is an internet porn factory. The lyrics are about surviving in rough circumstances. The mood of the song is definitely a state of shock... or disorientation. It's a ceratin numbness that I really wanted to evoke. I worked with my frequent collaborator Tony Rodini, and we made the track to "Survive". I wanted to go in the opposite direction of my other music (especially after talking to the producer of the slasher.)

I've had a look at some of your other work, and this is really quite different. What made you go for a different angle, and what do you think of the work that Hannah has done?

Hannah is at the very beginning of what could be a promising career as a director, writer, and producer. I have been trying to encourage her to keep going and she is already starting work on a film!

And last but not least, will you be getting in on the Women in Horror Month celebrations this year?

As for Women In Horror... I guess Hannah and I will have to talk about it!

Flashback Friday - Twisted Twins Massive Blood Drive PSA 2011

So back in 2011 Jen and Sylvia Soska asked me to take part in their Massive Blood Drive PSA, to which I happily obliged.  One of the coolest things about this, aside from inspiring people to give blood, and the fact that the video featured all my bad ass awesome chicks in horror...and Juno's little sister Sierra Pitkin (fucking love Juno!!)...was the fact that this was the moment that Jen and Sylv announced to the world who would be playing Mary in their now incredibly successful movie American Mary.  Which is pretty fucking cool.  :)
